Daily Steps Calculator

How many steps a day should you walk? Get a realistic target for your age and goal.

Steps are the easiest win in fitness

Walking is free, low-impact, and it adds up. Daily steps drive a big share of the calories most people burn outside of exercise, and they are the simplest habit to build. In Fredericton the riverwalk, Odell Park, and the trail network make it easy to hit your number outdoors.

Pair your steps with your daily calories and protein target, or turn a walk into a coached session with outdoor training.

These calculators give general estimates for healthy adults and are not medical advice. Talk to Georgia or your doctor before making big changes, especially if you have a health condition.

Common Questions

How many steps a day should I walk?

For general health, most adults benefit from about 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day, with younger adults at the higher end and older adults slightly lower. If your goal is weight loss or building fitness, adding 1,500 to 2,000 steps on top helps. The calculator gives your personal range.

Is 10,000 steps a magic number?

No. Ten thousand is a round marketing number, not a medical rule. Real health benefits start well below it, and the best target is one you can actually hit most days. Consistency beats the perfect number.

Do steps replace strength training?

No. Walking is excellent for heart health, daily calorie burn, and recovery, but it does not build or preserve muscle the way resistance training does. The best results come from pairing steps with a couple of strength sessions a week.
